St. Aloysious
Working in conjunction with St. Aloysius Orphanage, one of the supportive services offered at Hoffman Elementary is School-Based Therapy. Jennifer Mahaney is employed by St. Aloysius Orphanage, but sees students during school hours in room 7. Jennifer has an independent counseling license and a national certification in mental health services. She offers the same level of service in school, that many students receive from an outpatient mental health agency or doctor.
A therapist deals with all types of issues and all types of kids. For example, kids who have experienced loss or trauma, who can’t pay attention in class or who are considered “defiant” may benefit from counseling. Sessions focus on things like anger management, developing good social skills and making positive choices…So, there are many different reasons to work with a counselor. Sessions are confidential and not included in any educational record.
St. Aloysius Orphanage also provides additional services like case managers, psychiatric and psychological evaluations or alternative placements to help parents and kids who are struggling. Through the partnership with Hoffman Elementary, St. Al’s can often provide these additional services at school relatively quickly.
If you are interested in becoming involved in counseling services, or if you would just like more information, please contact Jennifer Mahaney at 363-2737 or at jmahaney@stalsorphanage.org
